The Punjab government has announced revised schedules for all public and private colleges, effective today, May 21, until May 31.
This development comes after surge in temperature to dangerous level across the province. In many cities of the Punjab temperature is likely to cross 50 degrees causing a severe heat wave in these areas.
The province’s Higher Education Department (HED) has issued a letter noting that the decision was made owing to “severe hot weather”.
Colleges will observe the following timings:
Morning Shifts
Monday through Thursday and Saturday: 7:30am to 11:30am.
Friday: 7:30am to 11am.
Evening Shifts
Monday through Saturday: 4 to 8 p.m.
A day earlier, the Punjab administration ordered the shutdown of schools across the state for seven days owing to high temperatures.
Now parents and guardians can a sigh of relief as the mercury rises day by day and young students are more susceptible to the harsh effects of heat waves.

The provincial administration has issued a statement in this respect, stating: “In view of the surge in temperature and heatwave in the province, all public and private schools shall remain closed for seven days with effect from May 25th to May 31st, 2024.”
“However, schools will be allowed to conduct examinations as scheduled with necessary precautions to ensure safety of students,” it stated.
