The PML-N government in Pakistan especially in Punjab is quite keen to promote education at technology level with aiming to provide free WiFi connection at different places in Lahore.
This will mark the completion of another promise by the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This program, coordinated by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), is a comprehensive move to improve connectivity and internet access across the city.
The intention to reestablish free WiFi connections follows a similar initiative launched by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in 2013.
However, this service was ended under the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s mandate due to unresolved financial responsibilities.

The Punjab Information Technology Board now manages the service, which was formerly managed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).
As part of the resuscitation process, efforts are being made to upgrade and improve the current infrastructure, ensuring smooth access and a dependable internet experience.
Chief Minister Sharif shared her delight for the effort on her social media account, adding, “Free WiFi has begun at the following (50 locations) in Lahore. The remainder of Lahore is also being done. Alhamdulillah! “We promise and deliver.”
This strategy focuses on essential public spaces such as educational institutions, airports, train stations, and bus stops. Eventually, the service will cover 516 places throughout Lahore.
Individuals may simply use the free WiFi service by selecting the “CM Maryam Nawaz Free WiFi” option in the WiFi settings, allowing for seamless internet connection in various public locations.
This project not only corresponds with the government’s goal to upgrading technical infrastructure, but it also demonstrates its desire to improving the quality of life for Punjab residents by encouraging digital inclusion and connection.
