The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) is the authority that controls the identity and information related to its citizens and issues National Identity Cards and Smart NICs to Pakistani residents.
The authority plays a key role in keeping track record of its citizens and safeguarding them to provide whenever their needs arise.
In Pakistan, the NIC is the fundamental identifying document that assigns each citizen a unique identification number.
Individuals must first get documentation such as a license, NTN, bank account, passport, cellphone connection, and so on. Every Pakistani citizen above the age of 18 is eligible for the NIC.
ID cards are intimately related to healthcare by integrating medical records and education by authenticating identities for school admissions. It is also required for obtaining SIM cards.

As of August 2024, the usual charge for a New Smart National Identity Card is Rs750. Urgent processing costs Rs1,500, while the executive category now costs Rs2,500.

Where to Apply for an ID Card?
If you are applying for the first time, you must go to any local Nadra Registration Centre with the needed papers, which include a birth certificate or matric result card and a copy of a family member’s CNIC.
