Government Announces Ashura Holidays

As the month of Muharram starts in Pakistan the government is going to declare the necessary announcement regarding the Ashura, on 16th and 17th July.

The federal administration has declared a couple of Ashura holidays on July 16th and 17th, 2024, to commemorate Ashura, which occurs on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

Government Announces Ashura Holidays

The government of KP alos declared holiday on the 1st day of Muharram in province but all other provinces avoid making such announcements.

The Cabinet Division said on Tuesday that “the Prime Minister is pleased to declare 16th and 17th July 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1446 AH).”

On the other side, provincial administrations have implemented stringent security measures to protect public safety. Previously, Punjab imposed pillion riding in the province till Ashura.

Furthermore, the Sindh government prohibited pillion riding throughout the province on Muharram 9 and 10 to maintain peace and law enforcement.
